Dogs Walking Humans

As this working vacation winds down, it has become more and more obvious that dogs are walking their owners regularly. It is not uncommon to see the dogs straining to run, while the owners are being pulled along trying to keep up. I have also noticed most of the dogs are in great shape, in fact, not a hair out of place, and usually no excessive weight, likely to the specific diet of vet prescribed nutrition and natural foods.

The owners on the other hand, well the experts say that in 10 years 40% of us will be obese, and judging by what I witnessed we are well on our way. The other fascinating part of human behavior I noticed was, well, shocking. If you can remember toilet training your child or children, or perhaps you are doing that right now, you would likely get excited when your child finally takes care of business in the “right place” meaning the bathroom, as opposed to some other part of the house. Now, while excited I doubt you reached in with your hand to grab the prize to keep it for later.

The family dog however, has the power to make the owner run after it, pick up the “number 2” and pleasingly put it into a plastic bag to carry. Of all the behavior we try to get humans to change, and fail to, how does one train somebody to, on command, run after a dog and pick up its poop?

The other thing that bothered me was that it takes over 1,000 years for that plastic bag with that poop to break down in a landfill site. I think we should make humans use environmentally friendly techniques when being walked by their dog. They should bring a shovel and a seed, or seedling, and when the dog does its’ business, bury the stuff with the seed or plant, so something will grow there.

Judging by the volume of dogs out there today, we’ll soon have many new trees sucking up all that CO2 we are creating, and we will all be so much better for it. Meanwhile, have your dog walk you at least three times a day, and remember to take a shovel.
